Local businesses get staff working together with Psychotherapy

This coming week businesses from south west London are getting together in Weybridge to streamline their business practices with the help of Psychotherapy. The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is holding an event at Procter & Gamble UK Ltd, The Heights, Brooklands in Weybridge on 20th September, where a psychotherapist will help save time and money by getting their finance teams and the rest of organisation to work together.

According to speaker and Psychotherapist, Ellie Hemingway, the beefing up of budgets and anxiety around numbers that exists in most businesses is all part of misunderstandings that build between the Finance team and the rest of the organisation. Ellie left a serious senior finance role in 2002 as she was convinced this confusion between finance and non-finance personnel hampered an organisation to perform and wanted to do something about it.

At the CIMA event local businesses will have the opportunity to rid themselves of the time and resources that can be spent on the setting of budgets. Budgets can take up to 6 months to put together but when Finance and the rest of the organisation realise they are on the same team this can be cut down to just a few weeks.

Ellie Hemmingham, Psychotherapist, accountant and speaker at the CIMA event says: ‘At an individual level there is a lot of stress and anxiety around numbers – people get fired because they can’t do the numbers, and accountants spend long hours trying to get details from colleagues. When the ‘them’ and ‘us’ barrier is brought down, organisations can focus on what they are doing and where they are going rather than about ring fencing their own pot for the next year.’ Local CIMA Regional Chairman, Tony Dyer said: ‘Chartered Management Accountants operate in all areas of organisations with a commercial and forward looking focus. Management accountants operate in financial and non-financial roles throughout organisations and use all their training and experience within the business itself, providing them with a unique insight into how their organisations operate.’ Based on information supplied by Shirley-Ann Hickman.
