Having a tactile experience with vinyl records in Battersea Library

As part of British Black Music Month (BBMM), you can get a chance to see, feel, and hear vinyl records – those 12 inch, black round thingies that used to be the premier music carrying format before CDs and MP3s came on the scene.

Snorkelling and scuba diving have inspired me to paint octopuses changing shape and colour. The fish of the Red Sea are amongst the most vivid in the world. But besides such exotic landscapes as Iguassu Falls and Volcanoes in Java, this collection also includes more homely subjects, such as old London and familiar flowers.

A royal welcome for Paralympic champions

London 2012 Paralympic medal winners including Wandsworth Table Tennis champion Aaron McKibbin were last week welcomed to Buckingham Palace’s gardens for an exclusive garden party. The prestigious invitation celebrates the athlete’s sterling performances at last year’s Paralympic Games. Aaron McKibbin shared the news of his invitation with sponsors James Pendleton Estate Agents and spoke of his pride and excitement at being able to visit the royal gardens, which only ever seen by selected guests. The event was made even better by splendid weather (as the photos prove) and Aaron reports a very pleasant day during which “the Queen came down and spoke to some of us and I relaxed with food and drink with the rest of my team”.
