Freya Murphy, a seven-year-old pupil at Hurlingham School in Putney, has won a national poetry competition which got the thumbs up from Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Education. Freya’s winning poem, Creepy Crawlies, is about a cockroach and will be published in the next book in the Felicity Fly series. Christina Gabbitas, author of the six rhyming books in the series and mastermind of the competition, said, “We have some very talented children in our primary schools, which we should be shouting about. I received lots of fabulously imaginative writing from all corners of the UK; the very best were chosen by a panel of fourteen judges and some of the most impressive poems will be published in a special national rhyming poetry book. The demand has been so high for the competition that it will run again next year.”

Participants learn new techniques, hear from outstanding speakers and work together in teams to generate, test and fine-tune their ideas. It’s an inspiring, friendly and relaxed environment. They gain new skills, use their creativity to find solutions and build a valuable support network. Even if they don’t go on to set up their own business the skills they learn are valued by future employers. Local Businesses Join Forces to Support Cancer Research

BoCo – Surbiton’s leading Yoga & Pilates centre – is announcing today that it is joining forces with local businesses and local author and cancer survivor, Keith Hern, to raise money for the Astro Brain Tumour Fund and Oracle Cancer Trust. The centre is throwing its doors open to the local community on Saturday 1st June to hold the first of its fundraising Open Days – a day of wellness, inspiration and relaxation held in the name of a cancer research.
