Disney Delight

By Community Correspondent Richard Sharp

In an unusual competition for the under 12s, Andrew Milbank invited youngsters to count the number of Walt Disney characters on his colourful, vintage rug. It was all part of the celebrations for Hampton Hill’s first Summer Festival on Saturday 17th July.

“It was more difficult than it looked,” said Andrew of Milbank Carpets. “There are all the old Disney favourites, from the seven dwarves, to Mickey Mouse, Bambi, Pinocchio and Donald Duck. The designer had cleverly inter-woven them across the whole tapestry, double counting was a bit of a problem! I bought the rug some years back for the children’s bedrooms; each has had it in turn. Only a few of them were made and I’d like to keep it in the family.”

Winners received sweets and toys with all the proceeds going to The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice, The Greenwood Centre and African Revival, all based in Hampton Hill.

“2010 is our 21st Anniversary in business in Hampton Hill so it was a delight to take part in the Festival, see some old friends and make some new ones. It was a lovely day and a super, family atmosphere”, said Andrew.
