On the 27th February 2015, a team of girls from Croydon high school took part in the modern foreign languages completion held at Northampton High school. The day started off with a two hour coach journey but once we arrived we were ready to give it our best shot! The atmosphere was buzzing and a lot of schools took part.

The competition was only held within the GDST schools and there were different competitions for different year groups. The year 7’s had a spelling bee, the year 8 and 9’s had to perform a play, but the year 10’s however, had to recite or perform a poem of their choice, and the three languages that were involved in this completion were; Spanish, French and German. Our French group was split into three teams, the first group performed a song about a rat, the other group performed a poem about a dunce and the third group performed a poem about a cricket and an ant. All were very interesting and attention grabbing pieces, which was an advantage.

As we were due to perform after lunch we took every opportunity to rehearse, we got into our costumes during lunch and nervously sat waiting for our names to be called up. We did an amazing job, as did the other schools. Unfortunately we did not win but instead got commended for being unique and enthusiastic. Towards the end there was an awards presentation, we all received a certificate of participation and returned back to school feeling happy and proud.
