I absolutely hate the film and book series ’50 Shades of Grey. It is nothing but vile, abusive and an incorrectly staged BDSM and Dominance/submission relationship. In my eyes, Christian Grey would be in jail by now if he were not as attractive or as rich as he is made out to be.

I understand people’s aversion to the film and books. Frankly E. L. James should be penalized for allowing such incorrect literature to be written by her. Yet, should the musicians be penalized as well for allowing their songs onto the film’s soundtrack? The film’s soundtrack is very impressive – even incredibly well performed by some of the artists! Take Annie Lennox’s version of ‘I Put a Spell On You’ by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Her voice creates a tone of relaxation surrounded by light jazz and the soft symphony of the piano backing up the echoes of her powerful lungs belting out the ballad as emotionally as she can.

Even Frank Sinatra was dedicated in this album! His song ‘Witchcraft ‘ sends shivers down my spine; even now just thinking about how that melody contrasts with his soulful and heartfelt vocals.

Yet, people still complain that the artists have sold out by being on a soundtrack for a film whose plot is surrounded by abuse, manipulation and painfully terrible writing. The artists in my mind have not sold out. In fact, they have tried to make a terrible film enjoyable by using their songs to try to lighten the embarrassing and sometimes frightfully disgusting sex scenes and controlling nature of Christian Grey. If the songs were not used on this film, would people still argue as much as they do on the subject? I do not think so.

Therefore, I leave it to you, readers. What do you think about the songs being used in the 50 Shades of Grey film; and the following 2 films that we all know will eventually come afterwards? Do you think that there will even be another film, considering the danger, this film romanticises?
