On the 13th of February 32 Sutton High Girls accompanied by three teachers set off from Heathrow airport bound for New York where a 4 hour drive took us to our hotel in Vermont. Arriving at one am the next day most of us only had four hours sleep before being woken up for the skiing day ahead.
Mount Snow, the ski resort, is famous for its powdery snow and spectacular views from the summit and provided great slopes for all levels of skiers. The weather was relatively good however temperatures fell below -20 degrees centigrade with winds of 20 mph. Unfortunately we stayed in Vermont when it was the coldest it had been over the past thirty years, however this meant the snow was fantastic for the five days that we spent skiing. Fours hours were spent skiing everyday and the group was split into sets according to ability so as to cater more specifically to our skiing experience.
After an intensive few days skiing the group head to an outlet where sales even had reductions. Most girls returned from the shops with over three bags, taking advantage of the savings. This evening the group then headed to the world renowned Planet Hollywood restaurant where a typical American diner meal was enjoyed in the company of various statues and statuettes of famous actors and actresses.
The following morning, bags were packed and hurled onto the coach and a tourist stop trip was made around New York City involving a view of the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and Times Square. That evening we headed to New York JFK airport and headed back on a five hour flight to the UK and back to Sutton.
