More than 120 members of Girlguiding in Worcester Park attended a ‘World Thinking Day’ event last week with a sustainability theme. Girls aged between 5 and 15 from all sections of Girlguiding (Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section) together with their Leaders carried out various tasks; enjoying craft activities and playing games all with the aim of ‘We can save our planet’.

The girls made recycled plant pots and planted tomato or pepper seeds to grow and enjoy in the summer, made dominos with an environmental theme from recycled paper, cooked pancakes on tin cans and ate a lunch of locally sourced food to reduce our carbon footprint.

They also enjoyed the good weather and played games.

World Thinking Day on 22nd February is when members of Girlguiding throughout the world remember all members in other countries as their founders Lord and Lady Baden Powell celebrated their birthday on that day.

Girlguiding UK, part of a worldwide movement of approximately 10 million girls and young women in 145 countries, celebrated its Centenary in 2010. Registered Charity No 306016, www.girlguiding.org.uk Based on information supplied by steve wicks.
