Every year it’s the same. Nearly all households in the UK get a Christmas tree and decorate it to celebrate Christmas. Some families choose a real tree and others choose an artificial one. There are positives and negatives to both. Real trees smell fresh but most drop their needles. Artificial trees can be used for many years but they do not have the appeal of a real tree. But what about the environmental impact of real trees? Walking around the streets of Sutton you will see the trees blowing around the streets, causing an eyesore. Some may say that it is bad for the environment, chopping down trees to use for a few weeks in the festive season. However there are arguments against this. Most Christmas trees are grown for a purpose. They are grown by special farmers who plant new ones to replace them. Christmas trees also take a long time to grow, so whilst they are growing they are taking in a lot of the worlds CO2 and changing it into oxygen when they photosynthesize. There are even ways to tackle the problem of wasting the trees. There are services where you can rent a tree for a few weeks, as it is in a pot. Then it is taken away again and taken care of for the rest of the year. It is even possible to have the same tree every year!

So although the real Vs artificial debate will go on, there will still be some who will ate their choice higher than the other!
