Around his time of year we remember many of the people who sacrificed their lives in wars around the world, and gave their lives for peace. This is even more poignant this year with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq being the most deadly. But many people question these wars. Originally it was said that the then Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction that were capable of devastating areas. But when these claims were found out to be untrue many people expected that troops would be withdrawn. This wasn’t the case. Now the government say that the troops are their rebuilding the country of Iraq and trying to defeat the militant group: The Taliban in Afghanistan. Also they claim that by fighting in these countries we are actively stopping terrorism in the U.K. They say that many terror plots have been foiled. Unfortunately, as no-one heard of these attacks (as they didn’t happen) many people find it very difficult to comprehend why the troops are still fighting.

Many soldiers of from any different countries have been killed. Almost every day another body is flown home and for the people of Wooton Basset, the town where the soldiers are driven through, and many other people, they can only see this darker side of the war. But there is hope for these countries. With help from British forces they have been able to restart markets that had been closed due to fear of bombs and news schools have been built for children. Although many soldiers are dying, there is some evidence that things are looking up for these once devastated countries.
