Ben Beckman, a 24 year old Tadworth resident,has been selected to play for England in the Thomas Cup European qualifiers in Amsterdam this week.Ben,who has 3 previous caps for England and made his debut in 2008,is following in his Mum's footsteps when she helped the ladies team win silver in 1984,bringing her tally of caps to 83.

Currently ranked no.3 nationally for singles,ben is hoping to go all the way to the finals which will be held in China in May.

The Thomas Cup,equivalent to the Davis cup in tennis,is a very prestigious in the world badminton calender and this year follows on from the English National Championships played last week in Bolton.Ben lost in the semis 21/18,21/17 to English no.1 ,Raj Ouseph ,which was a close fought match.

Ben has been training very hard to hold his own on the European cicuit and would like to extend good luck wishes to his team mates as well as those selected for this years Olympics.
