A Tractorthon has been organized by a local man in Banstead, to raise £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institute.

The event will take place on 31st May 2015 and has been organised by Andrew Compton of Banstead and Andrew Laver.

On the 31st of May 2015 the two Andrews will be taking part in a tractorthon, driving their respective vintage tractors from London to Brighton raising money for Macmillan cancer support and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institute.

Andrew Compton decided to hold the event to mark the 10th anniversary of the loss of his mother and was grateful to Macmillan who supported the family during her illness.

Andrew C said: “This won’t be as easy as it sounds – tractors aren’t comfortable at the best of times, let alone 40 year old ones and you can imagine the speed they travel at. Apologies for any traffic jams!”

The itinerary is: 08.30 Leave Tower Bridge.

12.30 – 13.30 Re-fuel tractors and Andrews. Join them for a ploughman’s lunch at Nutfield Masonic Centre, RH1 4ED.

17.00 – 18.00 Arrive at Brighton – all cheerers and well wishes welcome!

All the funds raised will be used by Macmillan to fund vital cancer services for people affected by cancer, from specialist cancer nurses to grants for cancer patients with money problems and and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institute which supports two care homes in Surrey, James Terry Court in Croydon and Shannon Court at Hindhead.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager Julie Holland for London South West, said: “Sadly the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever.

“No one should have to face cancer alone and events like this help us be there for people cancer and their family when they need us most.”
