1st Cuddington (Warspite) Sea Scouts are justifiably proud of the new toilets at their Cunliffe Road Headquarters, but perhaps proudest of a certificate which will hang in the new accessible toilet.

When the Group fundraised to replace the (very horrible) original late 50s toilets in its hall, it's young people also fundraised to "twin" one of the 3 new toilets. Toilet twinning is a way in which those in the UK can support life saving sanitation in the developing world. The Group chose Bangladesh due to its links with the water. The RNLI is also working in Bangladesh to help reduce the high levels of drowning.

On Thursday 30th, The Worshipful the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Councillor Robert Foote, met with young people & volunteers from the Group to declare the new toilets open, in advance of a visit by the Scout’s sister group from Bergen Op Zoom.

The toilet refurbishment is the latest stage in the modernisation of the Group's headquarters, which has seen the group invest over £100,000 in this community building over the last 5 years. Work has included the replacement of roof, windows, fence and the building of a new store. The Group is now fundraising to modernise its kitchen facilities.

The Scouts, who are both boys and girls from 5 3/4 to 18, hope to raise funds in future to twin the other two new toilets. Meanwhile the Group is looking forward to an active year on and off the water.
