Epsom Male Voice Choir took part over the May Day Bank Holiday Weekend in the Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival.

Some 60 choirs took part, which included choirs from the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, and Russia.

Ian Assersohn the EMVC newly appointed musical director had won the festival’s composers award the year before and as a result, the choir were honoured to be invited to sing in the prestigious Festival’s opening gala concert in Truro Cathedral. The Cathedral choir opened the concert with EMVC following, singing some of their songs from their new repertoire with a nautical theme, which included a world premiere performance of Ian’s award winning composition “Crossing the Bar” sung to the words of the poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Other participant in the Gala concert included the 2012 world choir champions from Switzerland, Mannerstimmen Basel and the renowned tenor John Treleaven.

The choir went on to sing in further concerts in, Falmouth, St Austell and Trebah Gardens.
