Year Five Children from Warren Mead Junior School went on a journey back in time! First they dressed as Victorians, then took a trip to Preston Manor. Their visit was equal parts terror (strict housekeepers) and fun! The children were given a REAL taste of what being a servant would have been like in Victorian times. They also got some hands on experience with some genuine artefacts, including mouse and skylark catchers! Their experience did not end there as they then donned their Victoriana a second time to experience a Victorian school day. ‘The teachers were very strict at first … but they found it very hard to stay in role. Some of us even tried on a dunce’s hat!’ Mrs Cunningham, the Head Teacher said ‘Both days brought the children’s learning to life. Although they had lots of fun, they explored a variety of roles and the difficulties associated with them. They certainly appreciate their teachers now!’ Based on information supplied by Sandra Cunningham.
