‘Miss Moneypenny’ Samantha Bond completed a very important mission when she cut the ribbon to officially open the new Shooting Star shop in Heath Road, Twickenham on Friday 6th June. Shooting Star are hoping more volunteers will come forward to help in the shop

By Community Correspondent, Philippa Hennessy Local MP, Stephen Hammond has pledged his support for The Big Lunch and is urging Wimbledon locals to take part. The nationwide event is run by the Eden Trust and aims to promote community spirit and break down social barriers by encouraging as many people as possible to sit down together for lunch on Sunday 19th July 2009. The idea was dreamed up by Tim Smit and his friends at the Eden Project in Cornwall. With the help of our many generous partners, including EDF Energy and MasterCard, The Big Lunch team are working hard to make July 19th a day to remember and hopes to have as many as 6 million people taking part across the country. If having a Big Lunch just for fun doesn’t feel right for you then find a cause that’s close to your heart and doorstep - be it a hospice, reformed offenders scheme or even a hedgehog sanctuary.

Transport for London (TFL) is proposing changes to Battersea Bridge Road, specifically the introduction of a 24hr southbound bus and cycle lane. Whilst the proposal will make the area safer for cyclists and is supported by members of Wandsworth Cycling Campaign, The Battersea Society intends to object to the proposals, and the list of concerns from local residents is growing. Have your say by Friday 10th July.

The Mekong River Dolphin is near to extinction with numbers less than a hundred! Pollution in the lakes, in Cambodia and Loas, is responsible for killing many of the calves and the adult dolphins. Scientists say that they are on the brink of extinction.
