Dear Editor, I found the new Council leader Cllr Govindia' remarks on schools quite ridiculous where he suggests parents should , willy nilly, start trying to set up schools wherever they fancy. Like in their street, their own back yard??
Where would the funding for all these new 'free' schools come from. It would come from the reduced existing schools budgets. It is awful to see how they bribe selfish Headteachers and Governors by promising loadsamoney. This rob Peter to pay Paul is disgusting in this or any economic climate. This is just the sort of unthought out nonsense that comes from the Tory 'free' school frenzy.
This is the same Borough that is going to charge children to play in their playground.
It was Thatcher who destroyed the GLC and ILEA and handed Wandsworth control of education which they, so evidently, never wanted.
They have always tried to be the most Scrooge like Borough in the country.
