I welcome the publication of the Mayor’s plan to deal with lawlessness among young people, Time for Action, because after the failure to deal with youth crime for so long, Londoners now have an administration that is prepared to tackle it.

It will mean that those incarcerated for the first time will not be locked up with hardened criminals and learn tricks of the trade; support will be provided to help prevent young people in care homes sliding into crime; and boost their health and self-discipline and self-esteem through providing sport and educational chances.

Boris is seeking Londoners’ views on his plans. Time for Action can be viewed at london.gov.uk.
