At 4pm on Friday night my friend arrived at my house with the quandary of being locked out of his recently burgled flat with both sets of keys sitting securely inside.
I phoned Sutton housing and was told that we would have to call a locksmith and get the locks changed ourselves.
Neither my friend nor myself have that kind of cash as he is seriously ill and I have just lost my job.
I phoned Sutton Crisis Loan department and was told that the situation was not considered a crisis and we could not be helped.
After a couple more pointless calls I finally got through to the customer center (never heard of this department before) and a lovely young man went the extra mile for us and arranged a locksmith and a goodwill gesture of paying for the service too.
I just want to say thank you to that young man, not just for the service but for restoring a little bit of faith that there is still some good in society.
Maybe we could all go out of the way for someone and make life a little bit better.
