Tesco’s time is running out to deal with abandoned trolleys

During my regular twiceweekly walk around Stanwell and Stanwell Moor, I ave been observing the sheer number of abandoned rolleys from a well-known supermarket chain based at Ashford Hospital.

This is also the second most identified issue of concern in my postbag.

These trolleys are blocking pavements, damaging cars and littering the highway.

This week, I have written to the manager of Tesco Ashford, Wayne Claydon, and given him a week to respond with his proposals as to how Tesco intends to deal with this problem.

The store has a line, which in theory should stop trolleys leaving the store boundaries, but it is clearly not working.

It is disappointing that a company which announced record profits of £2.8bn in April cannot be bothered to get such a simple thing working.

Some of you have told me how your cars have been damaged but Tesco was unwilling to provide compensation.

Once I have had a response, I will let you know what it intends to do about the situation.

I have explained in my letter to Tesco that if the response is unsatisfactory for my fellow Stanwell residents, I will have no alternative but to ask for enforcement.
