Solitary vote was all that was in it

Councillor Gerald Forsbrey might find it easier to assist the council in its struggle to fight developments such as the plan for the site of the west wing of Ashford Hospital if he tried voting against them.

It wouldn't have been difficult for him to do in this instance, simply by applying the council's own policy on density.

This block of 170 flats comes in at a density of 185 dwellings per hectare, while the council's guideline maximum is 75 dwelllings per hectare.

The proposal was passed at the planning meeting on May 28 with a vote of six for the proposals, and five against it.

A vote from him against, instead of for, the proposal would have made the difference.

It may be indicative of what is happening all over the borough and while residents may feel powerless to stop it, the planning committee should not be powerless.
