It is election time. We should not be surprised to see Conservative and Labour politicians queuing up to take credit for the campaign to save the Wheatsheaf, as shown in your online article “Government uses Wheatsheaf in Tooting to announce new pub protection measures”.

Not to be outdone, we might point out the legislation on community assets used to save the pub was introduced by Liberal Democrat minister Andrew Stunell.

This is after many years of community campaigning by the Lib Dems, met with indifference by Government.

But, of course, the real credit goes to the many non-political community activists.
