This year has been hectic, and as my 10th year as the MP for Tooting, it has been my busiest yet.

As well as helping constituents with their individual concerns, part of my job is to help stand up for our community as a whole, and campaign to make Tooting an even better place to live.

From Save our High Street, campaigning for more powers to clamp down on the number of betting shops opening in our area, to fighting to save the Romany scout hut in Wandsworth Common, to campaigning to keep Tooting Bec Athletics Track running, 2014 has been a big year for campaigning.

And we have had lots of campaign successes too – the Government has now agreed to create a separate planning class for betting shops, to make it easier for Wandsworth Council say no to new ones opening, the Romany has been saved from development, and we have finally convinced the council to commit to keeping the athletics track open and affordable, regardless of who runs it.

One of our biggest campaign achievements this year has to be helping to secure the future the Wheatsheaf pub, in the heart of Tooting Bec.

Our community-led campaign, which first began in July 2013, has seen planning law put in place to help prevent the pub being turned into a supermarket or luxury flats.

I would like to thank the Wandsworth Guardian for their coverage of all of these campaigns, and for working with the community to help deliver these successes.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all the readers of the Wandsworth Guardian a very merry Christmas and all the best for 2015.

SADIQ KHAN MP
