It doesn’t matter when I go through Epsom Station, these days I never see any cabs parked in the designated taxi rank across the road.
If it isn’t required by them, maybe it could be re-designated as a drop-off point?
Often when my husband drops me off, the ‘kiss and ride’ section is full, and we have to pause in the middle of the road while I hurriedly get out of the car. It’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, and annoying for other road users.
Epsom Station has other problems too. There are no seats in the ticket area, and there is little-to-no cover for people waiting outside of the station. So when I was heavily pregnant during sleet last winter, I had to stand just inside the ticket area and lean against a wall while I waited.
The benches outside are also often taken up by smokers, rendering them useless for those of us awaiting pick-up who don’t want to choke on carcinogenic fumes.
That brings up another point: why is there no designated smoking area?
I’m utterly sick of having to plough through cigarette smoke from people loitering outside the entrance to the station and the Travelodge. They also seem to be completely oblivious to their stench drifting into the station building itself.
Epsom station is riddled with design flaws - could this be one of the reasons for the huge commercial space under it still being empty?
