I can't believe that people are seriously contemplating Epsom and Ewell becoming part of London.
I, for one, am proud to live in Surrey, outside the sprawling metropolis.
I work in the City and coming home each night to laid-back, leafy, safe Epsom is a real tonic.
That is why I moved here from south London 12 years ago. Let us not kid ourselves, moving the London boundary out to include this borough will greatly increase development pressure on our precious green spaces. It will also put us under the sway of the Mayor of London who, as far as I can see, already pays very little interest to the outer edges of his kingdom. We will end up paying for grandiose schemes in London's more deprived areas, while very few benefits or money will flow out to us.
All we want from London is for Epsom to be in Zone 6, and it looks certain we will get this in the near future without having to sell our souls to get it.
