I've lived in Epsom all my life and been proud of the town's historic role. I remember the traffic jams the crowds the queues the smiles...

People flocked in their thousands on Wednesday to go to the Derby, it was a great day out.

The original Derby festival was Tuesday Wednesday Friday and Saturday, the throngs turning up for the Oaks on a Saturday.

Look at Pathe newsreels and see the crowds not just on the Downs but in Ewell and Epsom.

Yes, times change.

People originally walked from Stoats Nest train station in Coulsdon to the racecourse, had a day out, and then walked back when it was the nearest station!

But this is The Derby, the one all jockeys trainers and owners want to win.

It's not Ascot so why ladies day?

It's Coronation Cup day where past Derby winners, worth millions in their own right, come to duel against the best in the world.

The 'dash' the fastest 5 furlong race in the world..... yes market it make it appealing, invest Investec!

It's not just the Derby evening racing issue. There is a lack of toilets, no bookmakers near the Rubbing House or on the hill, poor quality food or no food at all.

Look at Sandown, Kempton and Lingfield, all their food and drink outlets are quality and reasonably priced - take note.

Ask the people what they want and deliver, before its more of a laughing stock.

Work with the Jockey Club to put the Derby in its rightful place at the top - the one to win, the one to go to for a great day(s) out.
