I was very disappointed to read that Andrew Pelling criticised Gavin Barwell MP for his inaction during the Croydon riots last year.

The day after the riots, I received an email update from Mr Barwell explaining what action he had taken and I understand that he contacted the Prime Minister’s office and that led to Mr Cameron visiting Croydon immediately after the violence to speak with local residents and businesses.

As a result of this, there were 10,000 more officers on the streets compared to the previous night and this measure was clearly taken to protect Croydon, its people and its property.
