So said the current MP for Croydon Central 12 days before the General Election.
Just 10 months later Mayday (Croydon University Hospital) is to close four wards and axe 200 staff. No wonder people say politicians can't be trusted.
The press release last week about King's College London's Professor Charles Wolfe's report on acute stroke care in south London also reminds us the current Croydon Central MP boasted that day that Andrew Lansley, the incoming health minister "would support the development of a hyper-acute stroke unit at Mayday".
So what's happened to that promise?
