Fans were right to boo

Whether or not you should boo your side after a dismal home defeat like the one Palace suffered on Saturday has been the subject of many a discussion.

On one hand it does the team no favours to have fans shout abuse at them and make them feel worse than they already do, while on the other people pay a lot of money to watch football these days and expect to see a lot more than the tripe they witnessed at the weekend.

Usually I would be on the side of the former but if I had been in the crowd rather than the press box on Saturday I think I would have made an exception.

To play 87 minutes against 10 men and lose was simply unacceptable but to create just two clearcut chances was diabolical.

Even Neil Warnock came out afterwards and sympathised with the crowd..

“The fans were booing and to be honest you couldn’t blame them,” he said.

“They wanted us to score as much as anybody but the quality was very poor in the final third, particularly the crossing.

“You can’t really stick up for anything in that respect.”

It seems so strange for the Eagles to suddenly be playing with so little heart and imagination when back in December they were passing the ball around with confidence.

Granted we have lost Paddy McCarthy and Ben Watson and they are big blows but the rest of the players have to get over that and step into the holes they have left in the team.

Nobody wants to boo their side and I’m sure the players don’t want to hear it either so hopefully it can act as some sort of catalyst to turn results around and by 5pm on Saturday Eagles fans will be singing Glad All Over again.
