Similar to the much-loved MMORPG World of Warcraft, Free Realms is an online adventure game designed for the younger audience.
Players are able to choose from a range of job classes such as adventurer, ninja, postman, miner, blacksmith, warrior, archer or wizard. Developed by Sony Online Entertainment, the game encourages users to try out a variety of gameplay mechanics, including exploration, combat, building, pet raising and social networking.
The social networking side of things includes the option to share content such as links, images and videos - and the settings can be restricted if you are a concerned parent. Free Realms also has the option to record your gameplay and upload it directly to YouTube.
Graphically the game is quite impressive and there are plenty of options to change the settings should you find that your computer struggles. For a game which is browser-based the graphics are refreshingly impressive, and the attention to detail is quite staggering. The sound is also quite good, but the music can prove a little repetitive at times.
Overall, it's an enjoyable game with much to do and take part in. If you are looking for something to keep your kids busy during the school holidays Free Realms may be the answer you are looking for. Also, the fact it is completely free is an added bonus.
At the moment Free Realms is only available on PC, but Sony Online Entertainment are planning to release the game on the Playstation 3 in the future.
