A new underground pop-up bar is to be opened on January 31st, according to the Croydon Advertiser to introduce the New Year with a bang! The venue which will be known as “Underground 2018” will be a host to numerous musical talents and live shows as well as DJ sets and is thought to begin from February.

A bar will also be provided once it opens in the Q-Park, Charles Street’s basement. According to the Croydon Advertiser, about three live events are to be held in a month. However, this will only be confirmed once the venue is granted a license by the Croydon Council.

However, due to recent controversy, this license may not be so easily given by the council. Dozens of residents of Croydon and Croydon’s Conservative Councillors have come together to sing a petition put in place to prevent any further progress to be made with the venue. This petition refers to concerns from “noise-levels” to “expense” since many changes will need to be made to make space for a nightclub like this to be built.

The location is also near to a group of apartment blocks and other properties, which are currently being used by many families. The inconvenience a nightclub may bring to the area is a major factor in its expected delay in construction. The decision now lies in hands of the Croydon Council.
