Wimbledon tennis; it’s an international event that takes place every summer. Most people think of this spectacular event that occurs for a few weeks in June when they hear of Wimbledon, but no one truly understands how much preparation goes into it. Locals see decorations begin to pop up in Wimbledon weeks before the tournament commences, but this is merely a final touch of the process that brings us this tradition.
Every year, schools in and around the area are able to give their year ten and eleven students the opportunity to participate in this fantastic event. Hundreds of children go through a selection process and training to become ball boys and girls for Wimbledon Tennis. This intensive training begins between September and November, and lasts until early June, when the competition begins.
In addition to this, the member’s club runs all year round; a group of carefully selected social elites who are given special privileges and entrance to the club’s restaurant for a small annual fee. Membership to this club cannot be bought, but only granted to those deemed worthy, with new members only being chosen once an old member has moved country or passed away.
