After a two week period of roadworks,  the junction which joins Cannon Hill Lane and Kingston Road has been reopened.

Work began at the junction on Thursday, 19th of October, during the week long half term period. The timing therefore meant that the work did not cause too much disruption initially as less traffic was coming towards the nearby Rutlish school.

The reopening of the junction yesterday means that commuters coming from Sutton or elsewhere in that direction will be able to travel straight from Cannon Hill Lane to Kingston Road.

During the road closure, cars would have had to take alternative, longer routes through Martin Way and Mostyn Road.

The purpose of the work was to reduce traffic coming from Cannon Hill Lane to a single lane, by reprofiling the pedestrian island in the middle to take up more space. This means there is no longer a separate lane for cars turning right onto Kingston Road to those turning left or going straight on to Chatsworth Avenue.

The main benefit to the work appears to be pedestrian safety. People crossing the road would have potentially been in danger as they would be unable to see cars coming in the right hand lane.

However, this will likely cause more traffic coming on to Kingston Road.
