At around 7pm on 26th April a fight broke out between two large groups outside Wandsworth Preparatory School and a young man in his early 20s was brutally murdered in the neck in a quiet residential, affluent area where homes can be up to an expense of £3.5million and occurrences like this are sporadic and tend to not impact the local community however this one has created quite the stir.
Megan Mann a 17 yr old schoolgirl lives next to Wandsworth Common and is walking distance from where the attack took place, she gave me a statement declaring how she feels following the event. ‘I live opposite Wandsworth common and in fact I walked through it alone on Saturday night and did not feel safer after hearing the recent news on the stabbing taking place only a couple of days ago’.
Members of the community are extremely traumatised by the stabbing and people are said to be on high alert and are now being more cautious about letting their children stay out alone.
This has not been the only loss of a young life this week as in Battersea, South London – Mohammed Hasan only 17 was hacked to death by a machete-wielding gang. The police have yet to release whether the two deaths have any correlation.
