What really is the best way to learn? Throwing yourself into a pile of revision notes, franticly highlighting pages and pages and pages of information, or simply just reading.

Most people tend to find their “best way” to learn and revise, however for the rest of us choosing what may be the most effective, time-saving and efficient method, can be the hardest part of our day and even revision.

Learning is not only useful for exams at school, college or university, but it also, in some cases, helps you at work. Whether it is that job that you have just recently been trained for, and it is crucial for you to remember what you’ve been taught, or you’re learning a new skill to make your work easier for yourself, learning is imperative.

Many studies suggest that learning is not about the revision itself, but instead those things you do around that time are what really make a difference. Activities such as taking a shower, exercising, meditating or going for a walk, and even sleeping, are what can help us to improve our focus and learn better. All these things relax our mind so that we don’t stress and therefore our brain is more organised and takes in more useful information than what it would have done before.

When it actually comes to techniques with learning, everyone may not have the time to pull out a pile of revision cards or continuously make notes. One of the most effective ways to learn can actually be to relate what you are learning to your life and the things you commonly see around you. The more you relate to something, the more of an interest you will have in that and so the more you would want to learn about it. Making links with what you have to learn, with anything in your life, from your pet cat to the colour of your bedroom wall, will actually help you to learn a lot more, while your brain will fill up the rest of the simple gaps in your knowledge once you have made those links.

Although there are many different methods people have to try and learn new things, it is always helpful to learn new methods as well. This is because even trying to learn that one fact with a new method will actually embed that fact into your brain because you will then remember it as something you were learning using a new and different method.

Overall, whatever it may be that helps you to learn, it is always great to learn new methods but moreover it is important that you do the right activities, if possible, around that time you are learning, so that you can focus your brain and your thoughts further.
