STUDENTS NOT GOING TO UNI!

Does going to university really matter? Does having a degree help you get a better paid job? Students are beginning to think twice before applying to university. This is mainly due to the extremely high cost of the courses plus and the living cost. The cost of going to university has risen over the years. In the UK, university fees were first introduced in 1998 under the Labour Government as a means of funding of tuition to undergraduate and postgraduate courses at university and were only £1,000 a year. In 2004 they were £3,000 and then in 2012 the fees shot up to £9000. Students who wish to go to university either get money from their parents, save it up from a job they have or to take out a tuition fee loans.

Taking out a loan is easy but paying them back is the hardest. What if you don’t get the job you studied for? Sixth form students at Rosebery School are worried if it’s worth the risk? One sixth form student said “I really wanted to go to University but £9,000 is too much. I guess I would just have to do an apprenticeship or start a job.”

Students shouldn’t be deprived of education only because the government decides to increase the cost. The fee should be lowered and there are lots of students that would agree with that.
