Taking a walk down Worcester Park High Street, everything seems normal. But you can sense something is changing. There are new glossy posters in the windows of the enticingly decorated shops and attached to lamp posts dotted around the street. There is a buzz in the air; a buzz of anticipation and excitement: excitement for Christmas...
Over the next few weeks, Worcester Park High Street will be transformed. As the nights draw in, the Christmas lights will illuminate Central Road and draw you in as they twinkle above you like stars in the sky. All of the local shops will do their bit to transform the High Street into a festive community for the holiday period. And as well as the festive atmosphere, there are lots of opportunities for the local community to join in with the festivities in Worcester Park.
It will all start off on Saturday 30th November at the Worcester Park Library when there will be a local craft fair between 11am and 4pm which will have lots of handmade gifts and home baked cakes on sale for you to buy. Then on Sunday 1st December there is a special Sunday Christmas Market on Central Road from 10am – 4pm. The Christmas Market will include locally produced food, craft and fair trade gifts. The library then gets a festive makeover and has its own Christmas Craft Fair on Friday 6th December at 6pm – 8pm and then the following Saturday 7th December at 11am- 3pm. This festive fair has lots of different activities for the children to enjoy, including a lucky dip, guess the name of the teddy, a Christmas raffle and teddy tombola. And for the adults the fair offers a free tea or coffee and homemade cakes at 50p. That same Friday (6th December) it’s the Worcester Park annual Late Christmas Shopping Night, with activities from 6pm- 8pm that include a colouring competition, a raffle, an Italian market, choirs, a visit from Father Christmas and his helpers and late night shopping until 9pm.
So as the cold winter nights draw in there is no need to feel down, just hop along to Worcester Park High Street and join in with the local festive spirit. Join in with the excitement: the excitement for Christmas...
