THOUSANDS of beer lovers packed into the Rebellion Brewery this weekend to raise their glasses to a south Bucks charity.
The Marlow Bottom-based brewery welcomed more than 5,000 visitors and poured about 15,000 pints of beer in a bid to beat last year's total of £9,000 raised for Buckinghamshire charity Scannappeal.
The two day event offered free beer, barbecue and brewery tours to guests in exchange for a donation to the charity, while a number of south Bucks musical acts also entertained the crowds.
Organiser Tim Coombes, 46, said: “We've been going for 15 years and this is the eighth year we've had an open weekend – it started as thank you to our loyal customers but we thought it would be good to turn it into a charity event.
“We got involved with Scannappeal and it's just gone from there, I think everyone knows someone who has suffered or died from cancer, so it's fantastic to support a great local charity.
“I would love to raise upwards of £12,000 but hopefully we can beat last year's total of £9,000 – I think we'll be close.
“But it's just a great community event, it seems the whole of Marlow Bottom comes along to have a good time – unfortunately I won't be able to relax and have a beer until it's all over!”
Andrew Barclay, from Marlow Bottom, said: “Scannappeal is an excellent charity to support and it's just a fantastic couple of days for the local community where everyone comes together to enjoy themselves.”
Virginia Nicholls made the trip over from Wokingham for the event. She said: “Scannappeal does some great work and it makes a nice change that illnesses that affect men are starting to receive the same support as women-only charities.”
