Fern Britton sets midnight marchers on their way

THIS Morning presenter Fern Britton started the first Wycombe Midnight March as the ladies came out at night to raise money for charity.

More than 500 walkers pulled on their trainers and fancy-dress to take part in the first 12-and-a-half mile long Wycombe Midnight March to raise money for the South Bucks Hospice and Scannappeal.

The women were set on their way at midnight by Fern and Wycombe Wanderers chairman Ivor Beeks from Adams Park before they made their through Wycombe to Loudwater and back to the stadium for breakfast in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Fern said: “I was going to walk but it all got too much with various other things I have going on so I had to pull out but I really wanted to be here so I asked the organisers if I could start it.

“I'm a great supporter of the hospice, the atmosphere here tonight is great and I think it is just great when people, especially women, get together to have a fun and achieve something.

“I think with events like this it is the magic of being out at night. I remember speaking to people after the first Moonwalk in London and they were saying it's amazing to walk underneath the street lights with hundreds of women, knowing they are doing something special.

“Many people here tonight are walking with friends, so of course they'll have fun, but a few people are here by themselves and I guarantee they'll make friends – it is a special occasion.

“I have lost people close to me to cancer and I think that is another reason for people to be here tonight. Everyone has a story and I'd like to thank everyone for taking part and raising money for such great causes.”

Been getting reports of some nasty types leaving the patio area of The Nags Head as the girls went by around 1am. Some walked out to block the girls asking for a kiss to be let by and comments of "its always the fat ones that do this type of thing".Anymore evidence of this

I was there on the night too and have not heard of any untoward behaviour from anyone whether from the Nags or not. There was PLENTY of encouragement from passers by and I for one can't wait to join up again next year !!!
