Sutton United left it late to take all three points in a hard-fought 2-1 win against Macclesfield Town last night (August 15).

The visitors took the lead early when Macclesfield's Scott Wilson connected with a volley from outside the 18-yard box just after a minute elapsed in the first half.

Supporters at the Knights Community Stadium were stunned, and became growingly concerned as the Us struggled to find an equaliser.

Several times the home side challenged opposition goalkeeper Shwan Jalal, but the Macclesfield defence withstood heavy pressure all first half to see out a lead at the break.

After the restart, Sutton felt that they should have had a goal allowed when the ball rolled over the line twice, only to be cancelled out by the referee on both occasions.

Moses Emanuel found the net on 84 minutes to level the score before Tommy Wright sent Sutton into the lead not a minute later.

Even with four additional minutes, Macclesfield were defeated and Paul Doswell’s men managed to grab all three points in the end.

The Us are away to Chester next on Saturday, August 19, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.
