Leatherhead skipper Iain Hendry reckons it is unlikely stars of the Tanners’ recent past will be returning to the club any time soon after watching three former players net in his testimonial match with an Arsenal XI on Sunday.
Striker Dave Stevens, defender Jamie Beer and midfielder Steve Sargeant all scored as Leatherhead - with Kingstonian coach Martin Tyler in their ranks - romped to a 3-1 triumph in front of more than 500 fans at Fetcham Grove.
The Tanners appointed former Merstham manager Mick Sullivan as their new manager last month, with Kim Harris as his assistant, following Bob Langford’s decision to call it quits in April and caretaker Micky Stephens’ departure at the end of the season.
And Hendry, who sat down with the Leatherhead boss this week to discuss his plans for next season, insists it is time to look forward rather than back.
“It would be nice to see some of them here again, but at the moment there are no plans to bring anyone back,” he said.
“Mick is his own man and I’m sure he has his own ideas, but hopefully he is the right man to take the club forward.”
Leatherhead - managed on the day by Fulham coach Ray Lewington - raised £4,000 from the event with the majority going towards Arsenal’s chosen charities and a percentage going to the Tanners’ long serving defender.
“It was a great day and seemed to go like a flash,” added Hendry.
“We basically had the back four that played in the FA Cup match with Torquay United which was nice.”
