The sight of Nick Scott leaping through the air to complete his hat-trick in Saturday’s win at Doncaster Knights was perfectly in keeping with the winger’s flying start to his London Welsh career.

Scott’s hat-trick, rounded off with a leaping intercept try, not only helped the Exiles to a 40-19 victory that took Lyn Jones’s side to the top of promotion play-off Pool A, it also took his personal try scoring tally to five in six appearances since joining on loan from Bath.

The play-offs, though, have brought the best out of him with a debut try in the Exiles’ win over Nottingham and another in the win over Doncaster at Old Deer Park.

“I’m very pleased, when I came down I was itching to play – I hadn’t played nearly as much as I wanted to at Bath this season – and the boys have been really good,” said Scott.

“Lyn’s put a lot of faith in me and I’m just happy to repay him and the faith of the boys as well.

“I did get one or two games before the play-offs, which helped a lot, and I’ve found it quite easy to bed in. I feel like I’ve fitted into the mentality of the club and brought into the team ethos.”

Welsh’s victory at Castle Park, where James Tideswell and Ed Jackson also scored tries, moves them two points clear of Bristol at the top of Pool A, and leaves the Exiles needing just one point from their final two play-off fixtures against Bristol (April 15) and Nottingham (April 21) to secure their place in the semi-finals for a third consecutive year.

“It was a really good performance by the boys,” added Scott.

“We put a lot right from the week before when we didn’t have the greatest game and we were determined to get a result and a bonus point.”
