Croydon Amphibeans U14s water polo team have retained the Red Cross Youth trophy, writes Mickey Helps.
They beat Andover 12-0, Christchurch Seagulls 8-3 and a strong team from hosts Basingstoke 9-3 to win the title.
The event was part of Croydon’s preparations for their London Youth Winter League campaign which starts later this month.
Goalscorers for Croydon were Mhairi Nurthen (10), Anthony Desouza (8), Dylan Nurse(5), Kane Nurse (5), Matthew Helps (1), Ben King (1), Rhys Singleton (1) with strong defensive performances by Jack Leonard and Josh Cresswell in front of an assured Ashley Hinds in goal.
Coach Chris Martin said “We knew we had the talent to do well but the teams we played today were well organised and we needed to be sure we took our chances when they were available today. I have high expectation of this squad.”
