Ola Afolabi is calling for Marco ‘Käptain’ Huck to face him again after regaining his WBO interim world cruiserweight title in spectacular fashion.

The 31-year-old former Battersea Amateur Boxing Club representative and Streatham school pupil dominated and battered Russia’s Valery Brudov in five rounds at a packed ESPRIT Arena, Düsseldorf, Germany on the undercard of Wladimir Klitschko’s easily successful WBA Super/IBF/WBO/IBO world heavyweight title defence against Jean-Marc Mormeck.

He had Brudov down twice in rounds three and five with a combination of hammering overhand rights and swinging hooks before referee Genaro Rodriguez halted the contest.

“I trained hard for it, did well and came up with the goods,” said Los Angeles-based Afolabi after posting his 19th professional success in 24 outings.

“Everybody thought I did better than what I did.

“For the first few rounds I was filling him out then in the last round I began setting up the jab, everyone was saying to me that this is the round you need to emulate your whole career.

“But when I was using the jab he just couldn’t come in then everything came after that.”

There is a strong possibility by next week that WBO could advance Afolabi to full world champion status only if Marco Huck decides to stay at heavyweight and relinquish his two-and-a half-year reign on the belt.

But the North Londoner has declared his intention on settling the score with the 27-year-old Serbian whom he lost to in very controversial circumstances back in December 2009 in Ludwigsburg, near Stuttgart, Germany.

The interim title bout was arranged after Huck fought WBA Heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin a couple of weeks ago in Stuttgart.

“He has to make the decision by next week so if he wants to come back as a cruiserweight then he has to fight me within the next 120 days,” continued Afolabi.

“But if he goes into heavyweight I would still love to fight him as a heavyweight.

“I definitely want this re-match with Huck. It was a close but controversial decision. I thought I won that fight.

"If it was held anywhere else in the world I would have won, but that’s old news and I’m moving on but if he wants to fight then let’s do it.”
