Edwards: I'm the best of British

The Charlie Edwards of old returned to the ring on Saturday as the Beddington Bruiser defended his Great British crown - and then warned there is no stopping him.

The 18-year-old dominated Wales' Ben Baker in the 49kg category at the British Amateur Championships at York Hall and comfortably secured a third round stoppage.

It was a welcome return to form for the Olympic prospect whose confidence had taken a beating after a first round defeat at the World Championships in Azerbaijan last month "It was a pretty easy fight to be fair," said Edwards.

"I boxed him last year in the final and this year I showed how much I have improved and that I am still improving.

"I felt he was strong last year but this year I didn't think he had anything on me.

"I wanted to make sure I did defend it and show people I am the best in Great Britain and that no one can stop me.

"I was so focused and completely determined to prove to everyone I am Great Britain's number one and show up all the doubters.

"It has put me right back up there and got me my confidence back - it has really boosted me.

"I feel back to myself.

"I was really down in the dumps after the worlds but now I am back."

Edwards will now look to take his improved form into the Olympic test event at London's Excel from next Thursday.

"I am really looking forward to it, especially now I have my confidence back," he said.
