Lloyd Kennedy, who started his professional career on the Jamega Pro Tour four years ago, returned after a two-year break to win at Selsdon Park this week, scoring a formidable 10 under par 130 and taking home the winner’s cheque for £5,000.

A parched and fast-running course with a strict par 70 proved a stern test for the players.

James Scade proved he was well up for the challenge by carding a first round score of six under par 64 with European Tour regular Lee James close behind on five under par 65.

The chasing pack of five, who all sat on 66, included Tom Whitehouse on a break from the main Tour and former European Tour winner Mark Mouland, who was honing his skills for a tilt at the Champions Tour in the US.

The second day was sunny with light winds providing ideal conditions for low scoring.

Sam Robinson went birdie mad scoring seven to finish on a blemish-free card of 63 after a lack-lustre first round of 72.

It looked as if a play-off was inevitable with the leaders bunched up on around six under par.

Dan Brooks broke the deadlock and leapt into the lead with a run of four birdies in five holes to finish on eight under par.

As Brooks birdied the eleventh, Kennedy was cursing a bogey on the same hole, which dropped him back amongst the pack on five under par.

He then reeled off five birdies on the trot to set a stiff target of 10 under par 130 for the other players.

Brooks parred the rest of the holes to finish on eight under par and take second place with James Ablett, who carded his second 66 of the tournament.

Challenge Tour player Steve Surry was third on seven under par.

25-year-old Kennedy from Chelmsford, on a two-week break from the Challenge Tour, said: “It’s great to have the chance to come back and play at a Jamega tournament and good to win at Selsdon.

"I started my professional career on the Jamega Tour so it is good to come back and see how well it is doing.

"The standard of play has improved enormously and the Tour is attracting good players with big fields – there were more than 110 players this week.

"I’m first reserve for the Challenge Tour Rolex Trophy in Swizerland next week, but if that doesn’t come off I'll definitely play the next leg of the Jamega Tour at Gatton Manor.”

The Gatton Manor tournament takes place on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th August.
