It was tight at Supreme when Cheam took on their rivals in the New Surrey League’s Top Ten competition.

With Garry Fitgerald losing the Singles, Alan Gover and Gareth McDonagh easing home in the pairs, it was left with the Fours and Triples to bridge the shots gap and take Cheam into the second round.

The fours was always a tight affair, neither side stamping authority, but Mick Gray, David Miller and Gary Stevens lost only six ends in the Triples to coast to a 22-8 win and seal the overall aggrefate result.

There was victory, too, for Cheam against Ember in its first venture into the Racal Decca Mixed League but that was followed by a disappointing defeat at the hands of Knaphill in the National Double Rinks.

Whilst Cheam’s “A” team is still going strong, Cheam B could not sustain its rate of recovery after a poor start at Knaphill.

John Parsons rink was four shots down after five ends but quickly reversed the situation by the 11th end, taking a15-6 lead. Mike Haigh’s Four was even further behind at the start, and 11 shots down by the half way stage.

At the 16th end, Cheam was five shots in front, but some skilful Knaphill bowling quickly reduced that deficit and, despite a seven shots win by Parsons’ rink, Cheam lost the match by eight shots, The Racal Decca game was nip and tuck all the way, with both Diane Hannon and Gareth McDonagh skipping their rinks to 5 and 15 shot victories respectively.
