There were differing fortunes for the regions runners as the 2XU Surrey Cross-Country League kicked off last weekend.

The men on Tadworth AC faired best in their Division Three meeting at Ricmond Park, finishing fourth out of nine on the day.

The club were led home by Paul O’Callaghan, who finished 10th in 29 minutes eight seconds.

He was supported over the 4.9-mile course by Dave Williamson (15th, 29:26), and Peter Mills (23rd, 30:09).

In the ladies Division One, the Epsom & Ewell Harriers seniors struggled finishing 29th out of 30th, while the U15s, led by Amaya Jones (12th, 17:08), finished seventh out of 17.

The Tadworth ladies found the going tough in the three-mile Division Two meeting, finishing 15th out of 30 in the five to score standings.

The nine-strong Tadworth contingent was led home by Jane Munn (53rd, 33:42), Sarah Bell (64th, 34:36) and Laura Palmer (70th, 35:40).

In Division Two of the men’s competition, Epsom & Ewell Harriers seniors endured a tough afternoon, eventually finishing bottom of the nine-team league.

This is despite good runs from Ollie Garrod (12th, 28:54) and Clayton Payne (28th, 29:58).

The annual Tadworth 10-mile race will be held at Epsom Racecourse on January 4, 2015, starting at 11.30am. There are prizes for individuals in all age groups.
