Crowborough Athletic 4 Chessington & Hook United 3

The long trip to the Sussex border with Kent meant there were a few latecomers to this FA Vase second round replay, with no fewer than six players turning up with just 15 minutes before kick off.

Hardly the right preparation for such an important match, but it was Chessington who started brightest, when Phil Page won the ball with his head and controlled the ball to run out to the left wing.

He beat the right back and got into the box to cross to Neil Wicks, his shot on the volley from 12 yards was instinctively saved by the keeper.

Three minutes later, again Page wins the header to Dan Bennett, he strides on down the right wing and lets fly with a great shot that beat the keeper but flashes past the far post.

That was probably the best chances Chessington had in the first half, and it was the home side that pressed forward.

Just two minutes later, right winger Wayne Clark cut inside and shot low, Mark Daniels goes down to save but spills the ball for centre-forward Wes Tate to score for Crowborough.

They really pushed for the second goal, and only heroics by the defence and especially Mark Daniels in goal kept them at bay.

Bennett got in on the break his on target shot hit the defender full in the face for a corner, then Aaron Leacock gets booked for one too many fouls.

Bennett again got down the right wing and got another shot in that beat the keeper, only just wide.

Half-time approached and the game could have been all over save for Daniels, as time and time again, he got his body, any part of it in front of the ball!

Crowborough attacked straight from the kick off for the second half, and it was Tate who got into penalty box, Danny Heath was lucky not to concede a penalty, but Gary Puckett was not so lucky as he brings down the lively forward for a penalty, John Sinclair makes no mistake for 2-0 on 48 minutes, then Puckett gets booked for another foul.

Baptiste Bogle also booked as Crowborough were enjoying themselves, then Bennett booked with a frustrated late tackle, then we get a look in as Crowborough's Nathan Godden slips and lets in Page, he shoots over.

Leroy Brownford and Darren Everett on for Bennett & Leacock as Chessington looked tired, then Paul West booked for a rash challenge, then the Referee changed his colours and booked one of their players, Dean Chamberlain, for a tackle from behind, but he brushes that off and his strong run through our defence gets him a goal as he shoots hard.

Daniels gets his body in the way, the ball bounces off his chest for 3-0.

Adam Cheadle comes on for Neil Wicks, then Wes Tate for them gets himself sent off for words said to the referee.

Fifteen minutes left now, and Chessington change formation to three at the back against 10 men.

It pays off as Cheadle gets into the penalty box but is brought down by Godden, who only got a yellow card for what was a last-man situation.

With Wicks off the pitch, Skipper GLEN NICHOLS steps up to pull one back from the penalty spot to make it 3-1.

Chessington were up for it now as Brownford wins the ball on the right side of the half way line, he passed inside to Page, who returned the ball to Brownford, his cross found Page again.

He shoots once, then twice to find Brownford on the goal line, who bundled the ball over for 3-2, PAGE to claim the goal later.

Then Brownford does well again, crossing to the far post where BOGLE was waiting to skip past the home keeper to score Chessington's third goal in ten minutes for the equaliser, 3-3.

Crowborough were shell-shocked now with six minutes left, and Chessington continued to press, but the home side made one last foray forward.

It was Clarke whose strong right side run into the penalty box resulted in him shooting from an acute angle, only for the ball to hit Puckett's body as he challenged him, on the way towards goal, over Daniels and drops into the net for the winning goal, 4-3!

Disaster, especially after the way Chessington pulled back the three goals, but every player can hold their heads up high after this fantastic performance against a very good Crowborough side who go on to meet Brimsdown Rovers in the next round.

Chessington Host Colliers Wood United on Saturday (3pm) and Epsom & Ewell in the cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).
