Blues' promotion dream ends
Boss Jimmy Cooper blamed stage fright after Met Police crashed out in the semi-finals of the Ryman Division One South play-offs.
A 2-0 defeat at bogey side Cray Wanderers last Thursday saw the Blues' promotion dreams bit the dust.
"We had six or seven of our boys who simply froze on the night and just did not perform," said Cooper.
"They were some of our most experienced players and I am bitterly disappointed.
"Overall it was a poor performance in a poor game."
The Blues dominated possession for long periods, but conceded a goal late in each half.
"Neither side played any good football," admitted Cooper.
"The game started pretty well for us, but we did not take our chances in the first half hour.
"Then we conceded a sloppy goal and that was it."
Cooper will now switch attention to a summer recruitment campaign as he looks to go one better next season.
He added: "I do not think we are too far away from where we need to be. But I am looking at bringing in four or five new players to boost the squad."
Cray Wanderers will now visit Tooting & Mitcham in tomorrow's play-off final at Imperial Fields (3pm).
Tooting reached the final with a 2-0 win over Cray Wanderers on Tuesday night, Paul Vines netting both goals.
